Photohunt: Words (Help for Victims of Typhoon Ondoy/Ketsana)

My Photohunt entry for this Saturday is very special and personal. I wrote the words in my notebook and took a picture of it for all of you to read. It's been seven days today since Metro Manila and nearby provinces were hit by Typhoon Ondoy (international name Ketsana). Ondoy's heavy rainfall severely flooded 90% of Metro Manila. It destroyed many properties and displaced many Filipinos from their homes.

The Filipinos today stand united in our efforts to help the thousands of victims of this calamity. Many of them are given temporary shelter in different evacuation centers. Please help these victims. Distribution of relief goods are ongoing, and should you wish to donate in cash or in kind, you could visit THIS SITE to learn more about how and where to course your donations.

And at the very least, your prayers will be very comforting.

I love this week's theme! The first thing that came to mind upon hearing the word ORANGE is the sunrise. I took this photo on top of Mt. Pulag, the third highest mountain here in the Philippines. The sea of clouds were very heavenly and made the sunrise more glorious than ever. I love nature!

This stray cat looked more surprised than glad when my sister attempted to give her food. You can click on the image to better appreciate. :)

Photohunt: Artificial

Here is a picture of my desk lamp. Thank heavens for the invention of artificial lights that we enjoy to this day. I can't imagine life in the past when people grope in the dark after the sun has set.

I took this picture in Camayan Beach Resort in Subic, Olongapo. Its rust color stood out from the rest lying on the sands.

Photohunt: Garbage

It's a boxful of shredded pieces of old documents. There's money in trash. Soon, this garbage will find its way in the recycling houses to help save our trees. Do your share also to help the environment. Recycle! :)

I always make sure I take a picture of the flowers my s.o. gives me. It remains the only perpetual memory after the flowers have withered.

I have been amiss photohunt-ing for a while.I was busy with some work. I'm catching up with this week's theme, LOCK. Here's a picture of the lock of my white gold necklace. Trivia: 585 in Italy gold actually means 14 karats.

Nail Art (Photohunt: Painting)

Last November our family went to Bali to catch my bro's IPSC World Shoot competition in which he was a part of the RP delegate. We wore uniformed shirts bearing our names at the back, and the logo of the Philippine flag in front. But my sister went an extra mile to show her support. She loves getting her nails polished regularly. And so for the occasion, she had her nails painted with the colors of the Philippine flag. It was so cool that a lot of people admired the ingenuity of her idea. :)

Incidentally, my bro ranked 13th overall. Not bad at all.

The Rizal Monument (Photohunt 3: In Memory)

This is the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippine national hero. It is also more popularly known as the Luneta Park in Manila. It marks the spot where Rizal was executed with a firing squad. I've been passing by this landmark since I was a little girl but I only got a chance to actually go down the car and explore the area last November 2008. It was incidental that the marathon I joined was held in Roxas Boulevard.

The monument is in memory of the late hero. The park teems with joggers, lovers, and various vendors. Many groups converge here for their daily stretching and tai-chi exercises, or to catch the sunrise along Manila Bay. As they pass by this monument, I hope they are also reminded of Rizal's non-violent means of trying to make a change.

Paw (Photohunt 2: Walking)

This was taken 2 months ago when my dog had her first grooming. Her butt was shaved, ears plucked of unwanted hairs, and her paws trimmed. It was so cute that I took this picture.

The foot of any mammal is called a paw. It basically looks the same in any animal, with four small pads with a toe each, and one big metacarpal pad in the middle. A bear or panda may have five or six small pads however. The pads are soft yet tougher than human feet. It cushions every step and reduces friction when walking. This is why I find it absurd to see some owners making their dog wear shoes. It may be cute to look at, but what they don't know is that their pet finds it harder to balance itself in its every stride.

And this is the reason also why we regularly groom our dog. The hairs around her paws are trimmed so she can walk better without slipping. :)

ZORRO of UP (Photohunt 1: Protection)

A disguise is anything that hides our real appearances. It conceals our real identities for self-protection. Superheroes hide behind masks; so do robbers who sneak inside our houses at night, or those who seize banks upfront in daylight. In this photo is a man who is only known as the Zorro of UP. This is his regular costume as he walks around the academic oval of the university. No one has really seen him yet without his mask. He is very harmless and quite patriotic judging from his cape, which is actually a Philippine flag. He is very friendly, albeit with obvious mental incapacity. The regular joggers are used to him and will sometimes give him food. If he is in the mood, he will engage in a conversation with people around. I have yet to hear what he has to say about our country.

Then again, not all disguises could be captured by my camera. There are those in MalacaƱang and in the congress who wear invisible disguises. You will neither see their masks or real faces. Now that's unbelievable! I'm sure it cost them a fortune.

I'm tagging Daday and Elaine!
