Temporary Divergence

It's that dark bluish car
I always wait for
that blends silently in the night
a split second passing
in my rear view mirror
the last traces of its faint lights
wave a final bid of goodnight.

I move on while listening
to the music in my car stereo
singing the lyrics in my head
and recalling the hour past
that's a keepsake
in sheer memory.

I bury my head in my pillow
and sleep with good wishes
that maybe tomorrow
I will see you again.

Life is Funny

Shattered dreams
and bleeding hearts

Broken glasses
tearing us apart

Gloomy days
and bright nights

Life isn't always right

Sudden turns
and twists of fate

Hate to love
then love to hate

Stars falling
from the sky

Life makes us heave a sigh

Strangers meet
and friendship blooms

Lonely deaths
coming too soon

Wishes forgotten
thrown into the sea

Life isn't always what you want to see

A smile on your face
with tears to follow

Change of phases
and a mask to borrow

Tomorrow brings forth
still a box of mystery

Who knows what's inside
Life is funny

My Brace of Friendship

Dedicated to Tina and Thea, my two greatest badminton buddies!

There are three string colors

That of trust, respect and integrity

Interwoven impeccably

Laced just right

Neither too loose nor too tight

Two ends meet at the center

Closing the gaps

Into a secure knot

To seal the brace

Of beautiful friendship

Safely on my wrist

Poem: The Hours

It takes one second for a clock to tick
A stroke of an axe in a wood
It only takes a second to snap
Or create a single reverberating clap

It takes sixty seconds to complete a minute
Approximately sixty beatings to a drum
It may be sixty steps to the finish line
Or sixty smiles you’re given to shine

There’s sixty minutes to fill an hour
Take a moment’s pause and think for a while
The hour you choose to close your eyes
May be the same dire hour to make you wise

Twenty four hours in a day is luxury
A treasure which knows not how to return
It may dazzle your way to futility
Or it may be your pass to your destiny

The hours escape like a smoke from a chimney
Its pulsations mesh in a busy society
It gently weaves its way to every soul
It works no end even in nightfall

A Cool Shade of Silence

The power of silence strikes me again
Mightier than the noisy pattering of rain on my roof
My old electric fan chugs in its endless turns
Yet I remain unmoved and pacified
Silence fills me with serenity
Hushing my angered veins with calmness
Overshadowing the mystery of death
Giving life to the ears of the deaf

I ponder on the preciousness of silence
Enveloping the vast, calm waves of the sea
It melts upon my dreary voice
Dawning at the words that want to come out of me

When silence moves on to lifeless bodies
When it goes over the chaos of war
When silence blankets me in my sleep
I thank God that I have silence to keep

Silence breaks the monotonous noise of life
And clears the haziness of my destiny
I stop to listen to the voice inside me
But there is nothing I can hear
No heartache to feel
Just a cool shade of silence that lulls me to an otherwise
Peaceful existentiality

I cease to resist this looming quiet fever
Just enjoying every moment of soothing silent surrender

It’s cold but sweat trickles down my sides
My vision is blurry and uncertain in the light
I shut my eyes but I can’t shut the butterflies running wild
I’m grown but why do I feel like a vulnerable child?

I free my mind but thoughts come chasing me
I try to give a shrug but I just cannot let things be
I go on walking only to find myself back at the beginning
I look behind and shiver on emptiness staring at my very being

I try to maneuver time to my own rhythmic pace
But time is unforgiving and constant in its ways
It drowns me in a sea of unwanted confusion
Swallowing me to the depths of solitary dejection

Burning emotions are kept afire even in the rain
Black clouds strongly discolor the sweet hues I have gained
I look up waiting for the sun to hurt my eyes
A natural feeling of pain that will make this world just right

Ang Panatang Maka-BADDICTS

Iniibig ko ang badminton
Ito ang isport na aking nakaugalian
Sa court ang tambayan ng katulad kong Baddicts
Kami'y naglalaro tuwing Sabado
Upang lumakas ang smash,
maging maligaya
at magkaron ng bagong kapaluan
Kami'y nagtutulungan
upang mapabuti ang samahan
at nagsasalu-salo sa hapunan
at wala pang gaanong alam
Sisikapin kong maging isang tunay na Baddicts
mula paggising sa umaga hanggang pagtulog sa gabi,
sa isip, sa salita at sa gawa
